H.R. No. 671 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 in the Sunnyside community of Houston is celebrating the 55th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and WHEREAS, Troop No. 434 was established in 1968 with the help of scoutmaster London Wilson and assistant scoutmasters Robert Bass and Marcellus Washington; Mr. Wilson served as scoutmaster until 1976 when Lonnie Burrell and Robert Price took over the troop; in 1999, Troop No. 1008 transferred its membership to Troop No. 434, and that year, Sullivan Thornton Jr. was selected as scoutmaster; over the years, the troop has benefited from the generous support of Bud's Meat Market and Johnson Funeral Home; and WHEREAS, Today, Troop No. 434 is led by scoutmaster Lionel Tomlin and assistant scoutmasters Brandon Achane, Arthur Gibbs, and Roland Foster, and it has produced 40 Eagle Scouts since 2000; for more than 30 years, the troop has enjoyed the sponsorship of Blueridge United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 has made a significant difference in the lives of countless young Texans while contributing to the betterment of the community, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in recognizing this momentous milestone in the group's rich history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 55th anniversary of Scouts BSA Troop No. 434 and extend to its members and leaders sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the troop as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
