R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jaime Esparza was sworn in as the United States
attorney for the Western District of Texas on December 9, 2022; and
WHEREAS, A distinguished prosecutor with four decades of
experience, Mr. Esparza served as district attorney for the 34th
Judicial District of Texas from 1993 to 2020; he gained recognition
for the creation of the Domestic Violence 24-hour Project, which
supports victims and raises awareness of domestic abuse; in
addition, he reduced arrests by 20 percent and saved El Paso County
millions of dollars through the introduction of the District
Attorney Information Management System; named Prosecutor of the
Year by the State Bar of Texas in 2005, he is also the recipient of
the 2015 National Mothers Against Drunk Driving President's Award
for Outstanding Criminal Justice Prosecutor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Esparza began his career as an assistant
district attorney in Harris County in 1983; subsequently, he served
as an assistant district attorney for the 34th Judicial District of
Texas and as first assistant public defender in the El Paso County
Public Defender's Office; in 1992, he became assistant county
attorney for El Paso County; he holds a bachelor's degree in
business administration from The University of Texas at Austin and
a juris doctor degree from the University of Houston Law Center; and
WHEREAS, An admired prosecutor and a dynamic leader, Jaime
Esparza has devoted his career to the administration of justice,
and his exciting new role provides an opportunity for him to make an
even greater positive impact in the lives of his fellow Texans; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Jaime Esparza on his appointment as
United States attorney for the Western District of Texas and extend
to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Esparza as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
