LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION May 24, 2023 TO: Honorable Dan Patrick, Lieutenant Governor, Senate FROM: Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE: SB1070 by Hughes (Relating to the interstate voter registration crosscheck program.), As Passed 2nd House No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Election Code related to the statewide voter registration list. The bill would require that participation in an interstate voter crosscheck system using this list fulfill certain fiscal and operational requirements. The Secretary of State currently receives $750,000 per year for participation in the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) interstate voter crosscheck program. It is presumed that any enrollment in a potential successor system would have similar costs and could be accomplished within existing resources.
