No. 253 SENATE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize March 1, 2023, as United Way Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, United Way partners work collaboratively at the local level to create opportunities for improving the well-being of their communities; and WHEREAS, United Way's programs support educational, financial, and health services and the 2-1-1 information and referral hotline for social services; Texas United Way agencies meet their goals through fundraising and extensive community reinvestment; and WHEREAS, More than 60 local United Way organizations exist in Texas, some of which manage 12 of our state's 2-1-1 call centers, connecting Texans in need to local resources, including medical services, affordable housing programs, employment assistance, food and nutrition services, and crisis hotlines; and WHEREAS, As Texas United Way celebrates 20 years of 2-1-1 Texas, it is important to recognize the devoted volunteers who connect individuals to support services and collaborate with community partners to aid those in need; and WHEREAS, Local philanthropy and volunteerism are indispensable assets to our state; United Way agencies have effected measurable change and strengthened communities throughout Texas, and it is fitting that they are recognized for their many contributions to the state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, hereby recognize United Way staff, volunteers, and donors for their outstanding contributions to the State of Texas and extend to them best wishes for a memorable United Way Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for United Way as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
