88R26769 BPG-D By: Middleton S.R. No. 545 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Captain Wallace R. Hogan of League City retired from the Galveston-Texas City Pilots in February 2023, following more than 21 years of outstanding service; and WHEREAS, Playing an important role in the region, members of the Galveston-Texas City Pilots safely guide vessels to their berths or out to sea; they maneuver them through the busiest waterway intersection in the country, where the Galveston, Texas City, and Houston ship channels all cross with the Intracoastal Waterway; while protecting lives, property, the environment, and economic interests in Galveston County, these pilots face serious risks, as they must navigate their own boats next to moving ships and climb aboard by ladder; and WHEREAS, Wally Hogan graduated from Dickinson High School and embarked on a career as a harbor pilot, commissioned by the governor of the State of Texas; in 2001, he became a branch pilot for the Galveston-Texas City Pilots; throughout his career, he demonstrated exceptional skill and expertise, and he benefited his colleagues as presiding officer of the pilots' association; and WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Captain Hogan is now a proud grandfather; his retirement will allow him more time to spend with his loved ones and to perfect his golf swing as well; and WHEREAS, Wally Hogan distinguished himself through his commitment to the important mission of the Galveston-Texas City Pilots during more than two decades of service, and as he begins the next exciting chapter of his life, he may indeed reflect with pride on his contributions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Captain Wallace R. Hogan on his retirement from the Galveston-Texas City Pilots and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Captain Hogan as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
