SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32 In Memory of Linda Hughes WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the passing of Linda E. Hughes of Albuquerque, New Mexico, on May 18, 2023, at the age of 81; and WHEREAS, The daughter of Louis and Nellie Smith, the former Linda Smith was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on January 27, 1942, and she grew up with the companionship of three siblings, Louis, Martha, and Nelta; she graduated from Arkansas High School in 1960; and WHEREAS, After completing her studies at Dukes Beauty School, Mrs. Hughes embarked on a rewarding career as a hair stylist that spanned three and a half decades; in her leisure hours, she enjoyed gardening and traveling, and she visited Spain, Germany, and many other states in the U.S.; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Hughes benefited from the love and support of her husband, Michael, and she took great pride in her sons, David and Damon, and stepsons, Terry and Greg; over the years, she had the pleasure of seeing her family grow to include two grandchildren, Davis and Emily, and two great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Lillybet; and WHEREAS, Although Linda Hughes is greatly missed, this beloved woman has left her family and friends with many cherished memories, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That Senate of the State of Texas, 88th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Linda E. Hughes and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons, David and Damon Ivey; to her stepsons, Terry and Greg Hughes; to her grandchildren, Davis Bentley and Emily Ivey; to her great-grandchildren, Isabelle Strange and Lillybet Bayless; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Linda Hughes.
