No. 77 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Mary Kay Walker of Flower Mound is retiring as president of the Seniors in Motion Auxiliary in November 2023, following many years of dedicated service; and WHEREAS, In 2009, when the Town of Flower Mound began the process of establishing a standalone senior center for its Seniors in Motion program, Mrs. Walker helped create the SIM Auxiliary as a nonprofit organization and became its founding president; the community-based group supports Seniors in Motion and purchases equipment for its programs and its facilities; after outgrowing a renovated building that once served as the first town hall, SIM moved into its present-day location in 2015; today, the program has more than 2,700 members from Flower Mound and surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Walker has been active in many other organizations as well, including the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Serving Denton County, and when Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound opened in 2010, she developed its volunteer program; she served on the board of Youth and Family Counseling, and as a member of the town's Parks, Arts, and Library Services Board, she worked to open the Fort Wildflower recreational area; in addition, she has served as the longtime treasurer of the Meadows at Cross Timbers Homeowners Association and as president of the MAGIC group at First Baptist Church Lewisville; and WHEREAS, A retired paralegal, Mrs. Walker began volunteering for Legal Aid for Dallas during her professional life; she enhanced her expertise in the nonprofit arena by completing the United Way of Denton County's Project Blueprint: Board Leadership Training, and she gained certification as a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Master Wellness Volunteer; named the 2014 Advocate of the Year by the Texas Recreation and Park Society North Region Conference, she received the President's Lifetime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama and the Corporation for National Community Service in 2016; and WHEREAS, Mary Kay Walker has enriched the lives of numerous area residents through her tireless efforts in behalf of the SIM Auxiliary, and her contributions have earned the admiration and appreciation of all who are fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Mary Kay Walker on the occasion of her retirement as president of the Seniors in Motion Auxiliary and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Walker as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
