No. 91 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Mary Peterson Earls has been inducted into the 2023 San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame; and WHEREAS, Established in 1984, the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame has grown to include more than 140 local residents; criteria for selection include performing volunteer work in multiple areas of service, meeting the needs of the community, demonstrating initiative, influencing positive change, and going above and beyond the call of duty; and WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of San Marcos, Ms. Earls has dedicated herself to improving the overall quality of life in the community and to helping those in need through her extensive volunteer efforts; she has given generously of her time and talents to a number of groups, including the Bluebonnet Lions Club, the Hays County Crime Stoppers board of directors, and the City of San Marcos Human Services Advisory Board, and as the first African American president of the League of Women Voters of Hays County, she advocated for voters' rights, endorsed scholarships that were awarded to students with disabilities, and worked tirelessly to ensure that citizens were educated on the importance of voting and civic engagement; and WHEREAS, Ms. Earls has also provided invaluable support to numerous children as a court appointed special advocate, and she has further benefited area youth through her service on the Nosotros La Gente board of directors; moreover, she has encouraged children to stay connected to their cultural history as a board member for Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos; and WHEREAS, Mary Peterson Earls has set an inspiring example of volunteerism and civic leadership, and the citizens of San Marcos are fortunate indeed to count her among their fellow residents; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Mary Peterson Earls on her induction into the San Marcos Women's Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere appreciation for her contributions to her community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Earls as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
