 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Bertha M. Dorian of Houston is celebrating her 90th
 birthday on March 16, 2024; and
 WHEREAS, The daughter of George and Naomi Normand, the former
 Bertha Normand was born in Beaumont in 1934; she moved to Houston in
 1952, and she met her future husband, Louis Dorian, at Our Mother of
 Mercy Catholic Church; the couple became the parents of four
 children, Shyrel, John Louis, Bridgette, and Tyrone, and they
 adopted two more children, Brenda and Wanda; and
 WHEREAS, After completing her education at Old Taylor School
 of Nursing, Mrs. Dorian worked at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital,
 St. Elizabeth Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospital before joining a
 private physician's practice; she went on to obtain certification
 in psychiatric social work, and she was employed for 26 years by
 Harris County MHMR; in addition, she and her husband were the proud
 proprietors of C & L Shoe Repair in the Fifth Ward; following
 Mr. Dorian's death in 1991, Mrs. Dorian joined with Tyrone and
 Lillie Dorian to carry on the business until 2003; and
 WHEREAS, Through the years, Mrs. Dorian's fine family has
 grown to include seven grandchildren and seven
 great-grandchildren; at the age of 65, this caring woman began
 raising her great-granddaughter Matea Barrett-Dangerfield, who was
 then an infant, and they have been inseparable ever since; and
 WHEREAS, For 40 years, Mrs. Dorian sang in the Our Mother of
 Mercy Gospel Choir, and she has given freely of her time and talents
 to the Northeast Chapter of the Drexler Society; her church
 presented her with its Woman of the Year Service Award, and her
 accolades also include the George Foreman Award for Community
 Service; she currently participates in the senior program and the
 water aerobics classes at the Julia C. Hester House community
 center in the Fifth Ward; moreover, she recently took part in a
 creative initiative sponsored by the Glassell School of Art at the
 Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the story and collage produced
 during the project will be exhibited at the museum in early 2024;
 and
 WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends,
 Bertha Dorian is a source of joy and inspiration to all who have the
 great privilege of knowing her and sharing in the richness of her
 life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
 Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Bertha
 M. Dorian on her 90th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes
 for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Dorian as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
