No. 49 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Augustin Rivera Jr. is receiving the 37th annual Distinguished Citizen of the Year award from the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America on November 30, 2023; and WHEREAS, The South Texas Council annually recognizes a resident of the Coastal Bend area who has made significant contributions to the broader community; this year, Augie Rivera is being honored for the positive impact he has made in South Texas; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Yale University and Stanford Law School, Mr. Rivera currently serves as general counsel for the Del Mar College District, where he is also a member of the president's executive team; his previous experience includes nearly three decades of service as a civil trial and appellate lawyer; along the way, he has distinguished himself as chair of the Texas Board of Law Examiners and as a member of the board of directors for the National Conference of Bar Examiners and the National Association of College and University Attorneys; he has been recognized at the local, state, and national levels for his professional accomplishments; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rivera has held leadership positions with numerous civic organizations, including South Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc., Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Foundation, Ethics Commission of the City of Corpus Christi, and the Corpus Christi Housing Authority; in addition, he has volunteered as a coach for youth baseball, basketball, and chess; he has been active in the scouting program, and in 2019, he served as centennial board president of the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America; among his many achievements, he received a Silver Beaver Award; and WHEREAS, Through his outstanding record of service, Augie Rivera exemplifies the high ideals of the Boy Scouts of America, and he is indeed worthy of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Augustin Rivera Jr. on receiving the 2023 Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award from the South Texas Council Boy Scouts of America and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Rivera as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
