Zahn Jr. is concluding his noteworthy tenure as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission in January 2024; and WHEREAS, A member of the commission since 2012, Charlie Zahn was first elected chair in 2016; he has worked tirelessly to enhance the port's infrastructure, and construction of the deepening and widening of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project will be completed in 2025; the port has continued to set records for growth in goods movements; in 2022, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times named him Newsmaker of the Year to recognize his contributions to the success of the region's primary economic engine; and WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a longtime resident of Port Aransas; dedicated to his community, he has served in many leadership roles, including president of the Port Aransas Independent School District Board of Trustees and chair of the Texas State Aquarium Board of Trustees and Nueces County Board of Coastal Parks; he has been active in the Boy Scouts of America for more than seven decades and served the organization as both president and chair of the South Texas Council; in addition, he has been vice chair of the Corpus Christi Metropolitan Planning Organization and a member of the Alliance for I-69 Texas and the Texas Department of Transportation I-69 Advisory Committee; he has also given of his time and expertise to such organizations as the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Port Aransas Charter Review Commission, Port Aransas Community Theatre, Friends of the Ellis Memorial Library, and Coastal Conservation Association; and WHEREAS, Among numerous accolades, Mr. Zahn has received the Distinguished Citizen and President's Awards from the Boy Scouts of America and the Henry Baldwin Award from the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce; he is a member of the Port Aransas Boatmen Hall of Fame, and he was named 2005 Citizen of the Year by the City of Port Aransas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Zahn is a partner in the Law Offices of Charles W. Zahn Jr. and focuses his practice on real estate and water law; he holds a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a doctor of jurisprudence degree from Baylor University; in all his endeavors, he is supported by the love and encouragement of his wife, Linda; they take great pride in a fine family that includes two children, three grandchildren, and a great-grandson; and WHEREAS, Through his vision, skill, and professionalism, Charlie Zahn has greatly advanced the mission of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission, and his achievements have earned the respect and admiration of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Charles W. Zahn Jr. for his service as chair of the Port of Corpus Christi Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Zahn as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
