The bill authorizes the Texas State Library and Archives Commission to award library construction grants, the cost of which would be dependent on future appropriations by the Legislature The bill would amend the Government Code to allow the Library and Archives Commission to provide construction grants, to encourage the establishment of new public libraries or the improvement of existing public libraries.The bill would provide the basis for the Library and Archives Commission to award grants for this purpose. However, the agency assumes the use of existing funds and indicates that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources. Future costs would depend on appropriations by the legislature and those appropriations are currently unknown.
