Fiscal Analysis

This bill would require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) to compensate eligible peace officers according to Schedule C of the position classification schedule in the General Appropriations Act.

Methodology

According to TCOLE, the agency currently employs 25.0 full-time-equivalent (FTE) positions that would be impacted by the provisions of the bill. They indicate that 18.0 FTEs are currently classified on Schedule B as Investigator VI positions that would require $177,510 per fiscal year to be compensated under their Schedule C equivalent, Sergeant, C4; 1.0 FTE is currently classified on Schedule B as an Investigator VII position that would require $5,600 per fiscal year to be compensated under their Schedule C equivalent, Lieutenant, C5; 4.0 FTEs are currently classified on Schedule B as Program Supervisor VII positions that would require $118,400 per fiscal year to be compensated under their Schedule C equivalent, Captain, C6; and 2.0 FTEs are currently classified on Schedule B as Director II positions that would require $35,500 per fiscal year to be compensated under their Schedule C equivalent, Major, C8.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
