The bill would prohibit the sale or distribution of unsafe lighters. The State Fire Marshal would be required to adopt rules for the implementation of the bill. The bill would authorize the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to bring an action for injunctive relief and seek civil penalties against violators.Any revenue impact would be dependent on the number of violations or subsequent violations that result in a civil penalty. Because of the unknown number of violations that may occur, the revenue impact of the bill cannot be determined.The OAG anticipates that any legal work resulting from the bill's enactment could be reasonably absorbed within current resources.The Department of Insurance anticipates there would be no significant fiscal impact to the agency.The Office of Court Administration anticipates no significant fiscal impact to the state court system.
