 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Robert Maurice Galvan Sr., a valued member of the
 Corpus Christi community and a friend to many, passed away on
 January 7, 2025, at the age of 95; and
 WHEREAS, The son of Rafael and Virginia Galvan, Bobby Galvan
 was born in Corpus Christi on July 10, 1929, and he grew up with the
 companionship of eight siblings; a talented musician from an early
 age, he played clarinet in the 1947 All-State Band; after
 graduating from Corpus Christi High School, he attended Del Mar
 College before going on to earn his bachelor's degree from St.
 Mary's University in 1953; answering his nation's call to duty, he
 served in the United States Air Force, and he was a member of the
 USAF Band of the West and the Army Reserve Band; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Galvan began his career as an educator and
 touring musician, playing with a number of big bands, such as the
 Bobby Galvan Orchestra, Art Mooney Orchestra, Luis Alcaraz
 Orchestra, and Gene Krupa Orchestra; in 1960, he established Galvan
 Music Company, and he went on to manage the Galvan Ballroom and
 Galvan Rental; and
 WHEREAS, In 1965, Mr. Galvan exchanged vows with the former
 Alicia Varela, and the couple shared a fulfilling union that
 spanned 54 years until her passing; he took great pride in their two
 children, Bobby and Guadalupe, and over the years, his family grew
 to include a granddaughter, Lexi; and
 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Galvan was president of
 Sembradores de Amistad of Corpus Christi and a founding member of
 the Westside Business Association; he was also pivotal in creating
 the Texas Jazz Festival, and he performed on the lineup for decades;
 in recognition of his contributions, he received awards from LULAC
 Council No. 1 and the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, and in 2013 he
 was inducted into the Corpus Christi Business Hall of Fame by Junior
 Achievement of the Coastal Bend; and
 WHEREAS, While the passing of Bobby Galvan brings great
 sadness to his family and friends, he leaves behind a legacy that
 will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Maurice Galvan
 Sr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to
 his son, Robert M. "Bobby" Galvan Jr., and his wife, Deeanne; to his
 granddaughter, Jacqueline Alicia "Lexi" Galvan; and to his many
 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bobby
 Galvan.
