No. 251 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close with the passing of Alma Jewel Pryor of Dallas on January 31, 2025, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Born on February 12, 1940, Alma Pryor was a woman of devout faith and an admired member of her community; as the wife of Pastor George Pryor for more than six decades, she served as the founding first lady of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, and she touched countless lives through the spiritual guidance she provided to the congregation; she was the founding director of the children, youth, and young adult ministry, and she demonstrated her leadership and passion for service in a variety of other capacities at the church; and WHEREAS, Beyond her responsibilities to the church, Mrs. Pryor was active in the Dallas Regional District Association, which her husband served as moderator, and she led the Metropolitan Ministers' Wives as president for many years; in addition, she was a licensed cosmetologist and professional hairstylist, and she drew on her entrepreneurial talents as a wholesale buyer at the Dallas Market Center; and WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family, Mrs. Pryor was the mother of four children, Pamela, Darrell, Michael, and Tammy, and she relished her roles as a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Alma Pryor will long remember her abiding commitment to her family, her church, and the wider community, and she is greatly missed by those who were fortunate enough to share in her love and friendship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Alma Jewel Pryor and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn her passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alma Jewel Pryor.
