H.R. No. 287 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Proud residents of Sullivan City are gathering in Austin on March 6, 2025, to celebrate Sullivan City Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Located alongside the Rio Grande in the southwestern portion of Hidalgo County, Sullivan City was founded in 1908; it was named for Captain Ed Sullivan, who owned a ranch in the area that later became a loading station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad; at the end of the 20th century, the town's population totaled more than 2,300; and WHEREAS, Today, Sullivan City is home to nearly 4,000 people, and its economy benefits from the educational services, health care, and retail industries; neighboring communities include Harlingen, McAllen, and Reynosa, Mexico, and residents and visitors alike enjoy nearby attractions such as the National Butterfly Center, the McAllen Heritage Center, and Fordyce Nature and Hiking Trails; and WHEREAS, In addition, the community is ably led by its city council, which includes mayor Alma Dalia Salinas, mayor pro tem Ramon Moreno, and members Rene Peña, Nicholas Cerda, and Ruben Villalon, as well as city manager Richard Ozuna; and WHEREAS, The citizens of Sullivan City are working to preserve the best of their past while building a future of expanding opportunity, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby recognize March 6, 2025, as Sullivan City Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation.
