89R15063 CW-D By: Longoria H.R. No. 332 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of George S. Cavazos Sr. of Cameron County on January 23, 2025, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, George Cavazos was born in Weslaco on November 1, 1939, to Ignacio and Matilde Cavazos, and he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army; and WHEREAS, For more than 45 years, Mr. Cavazos worked as a truck driver; committed to his fellow citizens, he served as an alderman and as a member of the Santa Rosa Volunteer Fire Department; he also volunteered with the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo for over a quarter century and coached youth football games; he was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Santa Rosa; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cavazos was blessed with the love and support of his wife, Juanita, and they shared a rewarding marriage of nearly six decades; the couple raised 5 children, Yvonne, George, Veronica, Patricia, and Edna, and they welcomed 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren into their treasured family; Mr. Cavazos enjoyed getting dressed up to go dancing with his wife, and he supported his children and grandchildren at their sports events and award ceremonies; he liked playing softball and golf, fishing, and deer hunting; above all, he cherished spending time with his loved ones at his parents' ranch in Progreso; and WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his community, George Cavazos earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of George S. Cavazos Sr. and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Juanita G. Cavazos; to his children, Yvonne Gomez and her husband, Conrado, George Cavazos Jr., Veronica Ruiz and her husband, Danny, Patricia Cavazos-Torres and her husband, Hector, and Edna Olmedo and her husband, Rudy; to his grandchildren, Eric, Nyssa, Joe, Isaac, Jazlyn, Isabella, Jason, Ivan, Julius, and Noah; to his great-grandchildren, Luke and Sophia; to his siblings, Mirtala Garcia, Arnold, Ignacio, Juan, and Camilo Cavazos, and Matilde Cavazos Pinales; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George Cavazos.
