No. 478 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Reta Gay Nance were deeply saddened by her passing on November 29, 2024, at the age of 85; and WHEREAS, The daughter of G. W. and Wilma Garrett, the former Reta Garrett was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on June 24, 1939, and she grew up with the companionship of two siblings, Martha and Bob; she graduated from Whiteface High School in 1957 and later earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University; and WHEREAS, On June 29, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, John Michael Nance, and they shared a fulfilling relationship until his passing; Mrs. Nance was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Sonnya, Ginger, and Traci, and with the passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Nance enjoyed a rewarding career as an educator that spanned more than two and a half decades, and she taught in the Plains Independent School District for many years before eventually retiring from Cedar Hill ISD; in her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling and playing golf; a woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Plains, and later, she was an active congregant of Acton Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, Although Reta Nance is greatly missed, she has left her family and friends with many cherished memories, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Reta Gay Nance and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her family: to her daughters, Sonnya Airhart and her husband, Todd, Ginger Spiller and her husband, David, and Traci Scarbrough and her husband, Jason; to her grandchildren, Taylor Ledyard and her husband, Joey, Jordan Airhart and his wife, Katie, Mason Spiller and his wife, Alexandra, Reid Spiller and his wife, Haley, Madeline Scarbrough, and Parker Scarbrough; to her great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Graceland Ledyard, Wyatt Airhart, and John, Caroline, Carson, and Campbell Spiller; to her siblings, Martha Brooks and her husband, Dick, and Bob Garrett and his wife, Mary Kay; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Reta Nance.
