 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, For 44 years, the citizens of Live Oak County have
 benefited from the leadership and dedication of Sheriff Larry R.
 Busby, who has spent more time in office than any other actively
 serving sheriff in the State of Texas; and
 WHEREAS, With a career in law enforcement that has spanned
 five decades, Sheriff Busby was sworn into office for his 12th
 consecutive four-year term on January 1, 2025; since winning his
 first election in 1980, he has often gone unopposed in subsequent
 bids for reelection, and he has won the confidence and trust of
 county voters for his tireless commitment to public safety and his
 fair and respectful treatment of those he has encountered on the
 job; at the conclusion of his current term, he will hold the title
 of the longest-serving sheriff in Texas history; and
 WHEREAS, The son of a ranch hand, Larry Busby learned the
 importance of hard work, responsibility, and sacrifice at an early
 age; he earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural business from
 Texas A&I University in 1969, and he received certification as a
 reserve peace officer in 1975, the same year that he became a deputy
 with the Live Oak Sheriff's Office; he has since obtained
 certification as a master peace officer, served on legislative
 committees, and held membership in the Coastal Bend Peace Officers
 Association, the Sheriffs' Association of Texas, and the National
 Sheriffs' Association; and
 WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has shared his expertise as a
 college instructor and as a member of the law enforcement advisory
 committees at both Coastal Bend College and Del Mar College; he has
 also volunteered his time as a board member for the Boys & Girls
 Club of Live Oak County and as a member of the George West Lions Club
 and the local Masonic lodge; moreover, he has distinguished himself
 as a top competitor in law enforcement shooting and rodeo contests,
 and he was part of the state champion roping team in 1986; and
 WHEREAS, Sheriff Larry Busby has devoted himself tirelessly
 to serving and protecting the residents of Live Oak County, and he
 may indeed reflect with pride on all that he has accomplished over
 the course of his extraordinary tenure; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby honor Larry R. Busby as the longest-serving
 sheriff in office in the State of Texas and extend to him sincere
 best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Sheriff Busby as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
