No. 514 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, April is Landscape Architecture Month, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the American Society of Landscape Architects; and WHEREAS, Landscape architecture is a multifaceted profession that encompasses the analysis, design, planning, management, and stewardship of the natural and built environment; landscape architects are licensed STEM professionals who play a crucial role in shaping the spaces where people live and work, and their many contributions include designing and creating community masterplans, walkable neighborhoods, multimodal transportation networks, green stormwater systems, and accessible spaces such as public plazas, parks, schools, residential common areas, playgrounds, and trails; and WHEREAS, In addition to enhancing the quality of life for residents, landscape architects address issues such as climate change and biodiversity by implementing sustainable design practices and creating resilient and green infrastructure that can withstand and respond to severe weather events; through these efforts, landscape architects help to reduce the burden on state and local funds for disaster recovery; and WHEREAS, A number of higher education institutions feature accredited landscape architecture programs, including The University of Texas at Arlington, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University, and Texas Tech University; each of these institutions has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators in landscape architecture in Texas; and WHEREAS, Founded on January 4, 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects has rendered invaluable service to countless professionals in the field of landscape architecture; today, the organization boasts nearly 15,000 members and 49 chapters, representing all 50 states and U.S. territories; and WHEREAS, Landscape architects create inviting and safe spaces that contribute to the economy while simultaneously preserving the environment and ecological systems, and in so doing, they are making immeasurable contributions to the beauty and vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby recognize April 2025 as Landscape Architecture Month and commemorate the 125th anniversary of the American Society of Landscape Architects; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the American Society of Landscape Architects as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
