H.R. No. 595 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Colonel Thomas Clark Mohler retired from the Texas State Guard in November 2024, drawing to a close nearly a quarter century of exceptional service to his fellow citizens and the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, Raised on a dairy farm in Litchfield, Ohio, Thomas Mohler earned a degree from Cedarville University and was the first member of his family to graduate from college; in December 2001, he enlisted in the Texas State Guard and served as a staff sergeant with the 209th Combat Weather Flight; he completed officer training through the U.S. Marine Corps Academy, and in 2004, he was named a first lieutenant and commander of the Texas State Guard Air Support; and WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Mohler earned a master's degree in biblical studies and was promoted to lieutenant colonel; three years later, he rose to the rank of colonel upon receiving a master of divinity degree; in 2021, he was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott as lead chaplain for the Texas National Guard, and he also served as chief of chaplains for the Texas State Guard; dedicated to giving back to the military community, he established chapel service at Camp Mabry in Austin and facilitated its continuance from January 2020 to April 2024; moreover, he oversaw the renovation and repair of the bell tower and fountain at the Camp Mabry Lieutenant General Thomas S. Bishop All Faiths Chapel; and WHEREAS, Colonel Mohler belongs to the National Guard Association of the United States and the State Guard Association of Texas; he was honored as Guardsman of the Year in 2003, and he garnered many other accolades, including two Texas Homeland Defense Service Medals, the U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute award, six merit medals, and the President's Volunteer Service Award; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable career, Colonel Thomas Mohler set an inspiring example through his spiritual leadership and distinguished service, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his myriad contributions to the Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Thomas Clark Mohler on his retirement from the Texas State Guard and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Colonel Mohler as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
