No. 759 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed educator and wildlife researcher drew to a close with the passing of Dr. William Peter Kuvlesky Jr. of Kingsville on March 8, 2025, at the age of 67; and WHEREAS, The son of William and Eileen Kuvlesky, Bill Kuvlesky was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 1957, and he grew up in College Station with four siblings, Mike, Lisa, Faith, and Andy; a graduate of A&M Consolidated High School, he earned bachelor's and doctoral degrees in wildlife and fisheries sciences from Texas A&M University and a master's degree in wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; after completing his studies in 1990, he worked as a wildlife ecologist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and then as a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona; and WHEREAS, In 1999, he joined the faculty of Texas A&M University-Kingsville as an assistant professor and research scientist for the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and the Department of Animal and Wildlife Sciences, and he was later promoted to associate professor; in 2006, he concurrently assumed the role of interim assistant dean for the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources before being permanently appointed the following year; his tenure at the university spanned more than a quarter century, and he distinguished himself through his avian ecology research, his authorship of research articles and books, and his mentorship of countless students; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Kuvlesky enjoyed the love and support of his wife of nearly 25 years, Vanessa, and his daughter, Catelyn; he was known for his selflessness and sense of humor, and he was passionate about animals; and WHEREAS, While the passing of Bill Kuvlesky brings great sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. William Peter Kuvlesky Jr. and extend deepest condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Vanessa Kuvlesky; to his daughter, Catelyn Fritz, and her husband, Landon; to his mother, Eileen Kuvlesky; to his siblings, Lisa Bradway and her husband, Leon, Faith McConnell and her husband, Pat, and Andy Kuvlesky and his wife, Karen; to his sister-in-law, Jennifer Kuvlesky; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill Kuvlesky.
