No. 775 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The observance of National Public Health Week in Texas is taking place April 7 to 11, 2025, providing a fitting opportunity to commend The University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio for its contributions; and WHEREAS, One of three schools of public health in The University of Texas System, the UT School of Public Health San Antonio was approved in 2021 by The University of Texas System Board of Regents to address the disparities in key health outcomes in the region; located near many of the region's major medical facilities, the school is a collaboration between The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and The University of Texas at San Antonio, and its mission is to provide education that is experiential and leverages local data, to conduct research that addresses the unique health needs and priorities of the region, and to deliver services that benefit the local community; the school welcomed its inaugural class of students during the fall 2024 semester; and WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its founding dean, Dr. Vasan Ramachandran, the UT School of Public Health San Antonio will support 400 students within the first five years of the program, and approximately 100 jobs will be created to support the school; moreover, $20 million is estimated to be generated by its academic and research missions; and WHEREAS, The annual observance of National Public Health Week was created to recognize the field's vital role in strengthening our communities and improving health outcomes, and the UT School of Public Health San Antonio stands as a bold investment in training future leaders that will help to advance the well-being of all Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby honor The University of Texas School of Public Health San Antonio on the occasion of National Public Health Week 2025 and extend to all those associated with the institution sincere best wishes for continued success in their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the UT School of Public Health San Antonio as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
