 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of West Brook High School
 in Beaumont closed out an unforgettable year by winning the 2025
 University Interscholastic League 5A Division 1 state
 championship; and
 WHEREAS, West Brook began its journey to the title by
 clinching the district crown; in the playoffs, the Bruins bested
 Angleton, Huntsville, Georgetown East View, and Beaumont United
 High Schools to reach the semifinals; there, a 67-51 win over
 top-ranked Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial High allowed West Brook
 to punch its ticket to the state championship game for the first
 time in school history; and
 WHEREAS, The March 8 title match pitted West Brook against
 North Richland Hills Birdville High School at the Alamodome in
 San Antonio; the Bruins employed tenacious defense, holding their
 opponent to just nine points in the second quarter and holding a
 29-20 lead at the half; West Brook opened the third quarter with a
 9-0 run, but Birdville stormed back, eventually tying the contest
 and sending it into overtime; the Bruins closed strong, outscoring
 Birdville 7-1 in the extra period and emerging with a thrilling
 63-57 victory; West Brook finished the season with an outstanding
 record of 38-2; and
 WHEREAS, Championship game Most Valuable Player Elijah
 Garrett paced West Brook with 26 points, and he was joined by Dillan
 Dodson and Terry Satcher on the All-Tournament Team; the Bruins
 also received vital contributions throughout the season from the
 other members of the roster: Jacob Babino, Seth Bagneris, Amareyan
 Bruno, Derrick Daigle, Telvion Johnson, Brandon Lopez, Jaeyden
 Mouton, Isaac Nichols, Devin Polidore, Jatyran Smith-Artis, Jonah
 Smith, Richard Smith III, and Austin Stewart; these talented
 student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Michael Thomas and
 assistant coaches Chris Baloney, Michael Ryals, Josh Lamb, Mason
 Malloy, Keena Young, and Calvin Tyler Jr.; and
 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
 commitment to excellence, and the Beaumont West Brook Bruins are a
 source of great pride to their school and their many community
 supporters; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the West Brook High School boys'
 basketball team on winning the 2025 UIL 5A Division 1 state
 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
