 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Augusta McCray Dixon of Booker T. Washington
 Elementary School is celebrating her 40th anniversary with the Port
 Arthur Independent School District in 2025; and
 WHEREAS, A native of Cass County, Ms. Dixon graduated in the
 top 10 percent of her high school class at just 16 years old, and she
 became the first in her family to earn a college degree when she
 completed her studies at Wiley College; in 1985, she began a long
 and rewarding tenure at Booker T. Washington Elementary School,
 where she continues to serve as a second-grade math and science
 teacher; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Dixon has contributed in myriad
 ways to the success of her students, and she works to make complex
 concepts understandable and to foster critical thinking skills,
 confidence, and perseverance; beyond the classroom, her support has
 extended to providing students with clothing, school supplies, and
 other assistance; and
 WHEREAS, An invaluable member of the Booker T. Washington
 faculty, Ms. Dixon has participated in school-wide initiatives
 ranging from curriculum development to student clubs; moreover, she
 has led the school's gifted and talented program, and she has served
 as a mentor to a number of her fellow educators; a firm believer in
 lifelong learning, she continues to seek professional growth
 opportunities and new ways to elevate her teaching, and she was
 named the 2014 Teacher of the Year; and
 WHEREAS, Augusta Dixon exemplifies the passion,
 determination, and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our
 best teachers, and she has set a standard of excellence to which all
 in her profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate Augusta McCray Dixon on her 40th
 anniversary as a teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary School
 and extend to her sincere appreciation for making a positive
 difference in the lives of countless young Texans; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Dixon as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
