This bill creates a dedicated annual day to encourage physical activity, creativity, and community engagement in parks and recreational spaces. It serves as a call to action for Texans to prioritize these activities and reduce screen time.   Ultimately, "Unplug Texas Day" aims to foster healthier, more connected communities by highlighting the value of unplugging and being present.   As proposed, S.B. 2232 amends current law relating to designating October 21 as Unplug Texas Day.   RULEMAKING AUTHORITY   This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.   SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS   SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.089, as follows:   Sec. 662.089. UNPLUG TEXAS DAY. (a) Provides that October 21 is Unplug Texas Day to encourage Texans to unplug from their electronic devices and plug into play, creativity, friendship, adventure, and family.   (b) Authorizes Unplug Texas Day to be regularly observed by appropriate programs and activities coordinated by state and local parks and recreation agencies and departments to promote the recreational opportunities available at parks and other recreation facilities.   SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2025.
