The bill would create two Class A misdemeanor offenses, one applicable to a member of the board of trustees of an independent school district, the other applicable to a superintendent of a school district, for the use of state or local funds or certain other district resources to electioneer for or against any candidate, measure, or political party. The bill would create a Class B misdemeanor offense, applicable to a chief administrator of the campus of an independent school district, for knowingly permitting the posting of political signs on the premises of the campus except during certain periods.It is assumed that any impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources would not be significant. Local Government ImpactWhile it is assumed that any fiscal impact to units of local government associated with enforcement, prosecution, supervision, or confinement would not be significant, it would be dependent on the number of offenses committed and the associated court costs.
