No. 112 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Proud residents of Kaufman County are gathering in Austin on February 18, 2025, to celebrate Kaufman County Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, Situated in the fertile blackland prairie of Northeast Texas, Kaufman County was home to Cherokee and Caddo Indians when settlers arrived in 1840 and established a community that became known as Kingsboro; and WHEREAS, In 1848, Kaufman County was carved out of Henderson County and named in honor of David Spangler Kaufman, a member of the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress; three years later, the settlement of Kingsboro became the county seat and took the new name of Kaufman; and WHEREAS, Among the area's notable historic sites is the Kaufman County Poor Farm, which was established in 1883 to provide housing to indigent residents; other landmarks include the Porter Farm near Terrell, the Spellman Museum of Forney History, the Kaufman County Veterans Memorial Park and Vietnam Memorial Wall, the Terrell Heritage Museum, and the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum in Terrell; and WHEREAS, The people of Kaufman County take great pride in their rich history as they work together to build an even brighter future, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby recognize February 18, 2025, as Kaufman County Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation.
