 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends
 of Michael Shannon Ewing of Austin, who passed away on January 18,
 2025, at the age of 55; and
 WHEREAS, The son of Frank Irwin Ewing and Colleen Shannon
 Ewing, Mike Ewing was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 17, 1969,
 and grew up with the company of his beloved sister, Anne; he
 graduated from Wesleyan University and the University of Houston
 Law Center, where he was a dynamic member of the editorial board of
 the Houston Journal of International Law; and
 WHEREAS, After moving to Austin to work for Apple, Mr. Ewing
 embarked on an exemplary career in public service; from 2004 to
 2008, he was employed in the legal division of the Texas Legislative
 Council, and he went on to join the government affairs office of the
 Employees Retirement System of Texas; known for his diligence,
 skill, and keen intellect, he took on daunting tasks with focused
 energy; one memorable example occurred when legislators requested a
 plan to revamp state retirement procedures, and he produced a
 detailed draft over the course of a single weekend; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Ewing formed many lasting friendships among his
 colleagues and other acquaintances; he enjoyed thoughtful
 conversations, lively debates, sharing stories, and providing
 always reliable recommendations on Austin's music and food scenes,
 especially up-to-the-minute intel on barbecue joints; fascinated
 by the "golden age" television series of the early 2000s, he formed
 a TV club for fellow afficionados, and he enjoyed his own moment in
 the media spotlight in 2015, when he demonstrated his knowledge and
 quick wit as a contestant on Jeopardy!; in addition, he regularly
 participated in trivia gatherings with a group that included other
 former Jeopardy! contestants; while loyal to his Ohio roots, he was
 a proud Austinite and great fan of Austin FC soccer, The University
 of Texas at Austin football team, and Formula 1 racing; above all,
 he loved spending time with those he cared about, and he was deeply
 devoted to his sister and her children; and
 WHEREAS, While the death of Mike Ewing brings tremendous
 sorrow to all those who had the good fortune to know him, they will
 forever treasure their memories of his irrepressible curiosity, his
 wonderfully dry sense of humor, and his enduring warmth and
 kindness; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature
 hereby pay tribute to the life of Michael Shannon Ewing and extend
 sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his sister,
 Anne Cole, and her husband, Chris; to his nieces, Roxy and Meg; and
 to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this
 day, it do so in memory of Mike Ewing.
