 SENATE RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Texas State University's Mariachi Nueva Generación,
 which earned first place in the university category of the 30th
 annual Mariachi Extravaganza competition, which was held in
 December of 2024; and
 WHEREAS, Created in 1997, Mariachi Nueva Generación is a
 musical ensemble course centered in tradition, performance, and
 competition that has established itself among the state's
 leading university mariachi groups; and
 WHEREAS, The acclaimed ensemble first earned top honors at
 Mariachi Extravaganza, the nation's largest mariachi
 competition, in 1999, and it since has earned numerous
 prestigious awards in the ensemble and solo divisions of the
 annual event; and
 WHEREAS, The talented leaders and students of Mariachi
 Nueva Generación maintain a busy schedule of performances on
 campus and at events in the region and offer a variety of mariachi
 workshops and clinics to young Texans across the state, and Texas
 State University is proud to host an annual concert and
 instructional seminar series called Feria del Mariachi every
 spring; and
 WHEREAS, Mariachi is woven deeply into the fabric of Texas
 history and culture; the exemplary performers of Mariachi Nueva
 Generación have made their university and the State of Texas
 proud while honoring a revered musical tradition, and they are
 truly deserving of special recognition for their achievements;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
 Legislature, hereby commend the members and instructors of Texas
 State University's Mariachi Nueva Generación for earning first
 place in the university division of the 2024 Mariachi
 Extravaganza; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the group as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
