A BILL 
To make veteran Federal employees who were involuntarily 
dismissed without cause eligible for reinstatement, to re-
quire reports from Executive agencies on the number 
of veteran employees fired from such agencies, and for 
other purposes. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protect Veteran Jobs 4
Act’’. 5

SEC. 2. REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBILITY FOR VETERAN FED-1
ERAL EMPLOYEES; EXECUTIVE AGENCY RE-2
PORTS ON REMOVAL OF VETERANS. 3
(a) E
LIGIBILITY FORREINSTATEMENT.—Any indi-4
vidual who is a veteran and who was involuntarily removed 5
or otherwise dismissed without cause from a position in 6
the civil service during the period beginning on January 7
20, 2025, and ending on the date of the enactment of this 8
Act shall be eligible for reinstatement to such position or 9
any other position in the civil service for which the indi-10
vidual is qualified. 11
(b) R
EPORTSREQUIRED.— 12
(1) I
N GENERAL.—Not later than 60 days after 13
the date of the enactment of this Act, and every 90 14
days thereafter until January 20, 2029, the head of 15
each Executive agency shall submit to the appro-16
priate congressional committees a report on former 17
employees of such agency who are veterans and were 18
removed or otherwise dismissed from the agency. 19
(2) E
LEMENTS.—Each report required by para-20
graph (1) shall include the following: 21
(A) The total number of former employees 22
of the agency who are veterans and were re-23
moved or otherwise dismissed from the agency 24
during the period covered by the report. 25

dismissal. 2

EFINITIONS.—In this section: 3
(1) A
PPROPRIATE CONGRESSIONAL COMMIT -4
TEES.—The term ‘‘appropriate congressional com-5
mittees’’ means— 6
(A) the Committee on Homeland Security 7
and Governmental Affairs and the Committee 8
on Veterans’ Affairs of the Senate; and 9
(B) the Committee on Oversight and Gov-10
ernment Reform and the Committee on Vet-11
erans’ Affairs of the House of Representatives. 12
(2) C
IVIL SERVICE.—The term ‘‘civil service’’ 13
has the meaning given that term in section 2101 of 14
title 5, United States Code. 15
(3) E
XECUTIVE AGENCY.—The term ‘‘Executive 16
agency’’ has the meaning given that term in section 17
105 of title 5, United States Code. 18
(4) V
ETERAN.—The term ‘‘veteran’’ has the 19
meaning given that term in section 101 of title 38, 20
United States Code. 21
