Authorizing the use of the rotunda of the Capitol for the
lying in state of the remains of the late James Earl
Carter, Jr., 39th President of the United States.

SECTION 1. HONORING JAMES EARL CARTER, JR. 3
(a) L
YING INSTATE INROTUNDA.—In recognition 4
of the long and distinguished service rendered to the Na-5
tion and to the world by the late James Earl Carter, Jr., 6
the 39th President of the United States, his remains shall 7
be permitted to lie in state in the rotunda of the Capitol 8
from January 7, 2025 until January 9, 2025. The Archi-9

Leader of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of 2
Representatives, shall take all necessary steps for the ac-3
complishment of that purpose. 4

SE OFCATAFALQUE.—The Architect of the 5
Capitol is authorized and directed to transfer the cata-6
falque which is situated in the Exhibition Hall of the Cap-7
itol Visitor Center to the rotunda of the Capitol so that 8
such catafalque may be used in connection with services 9
to be conducted there for the late James Earl Carter, Jr., 10
39th President of the United States. 11
