Subject: Commerce and trade; workforce development; AmeriCorps 6 
Statement of purpose of bill as introduced:  This bill proposes to (1) require 7 
Vermont State colleges and universities to offer in-state tuition for AmeriCorps 8 
members, (2) exempt recipients of the federal Segal AmeriCorps Education 9 
Award from paying State taxes on monies received from that reward, (3) 10 
exempt AmeriCorps members from paying State taxes on funds received 11 
through the AmeriCorps living allowance, (4) enact a policy that provides a 12 
preference in hiring AmeriCorps members for State employment vacancies, (5) 13 
provide a State education award that matches the Segal AmeriCorps Education 14 
Award to a student who performed AmeriCorps service in Vermont and is 15 
enrolled at a Vermont postsecondary institution, and (6) dedicate State funds to 16 
AmeriCorps program development.  17
