Whereas,JimColvin,anativeofBennington,graduatedfromBenningtonHighSchoolandCentralMissouri
StateUniversity,andhesubsequentlyearnedamaster’sdegree, and
Whereas,asaneducator,hetaughtscienceatMountAnthonyUnionHighSchool,workedasaguidance
counselor,andcompletedhiscareerinthisfieldastheprincipalofMollyStarkElementarySchool, and
Whereas,asanentrepreneur,JimColvinpurchased,operated,andexpandedtheBenningtonCarWash;
establishedtheBenningtonExpressLubein2002;andmanagedCatamountPelletFuelCorporationinAdams,
Massachusetts, and
Whereas,mostnotably,JimColvin’sdistinguishedpublicservicebeganin1979asaBenningtonSelect
Boardmember,includingfiveyearschairingitsmunicipalpanel;andsubsequently,heservedastownmanager;
oneofthecommunity’slisters;andasthetown’smoderator,arolethatrequiredhisoversightofparliamentary
decorumattownmeetings, and
Whereas,in1998,JimColvinwaselectedforthefirstoftwoconsecutivetermstotheHouseof
Representatives,anddespitehisrelativelybrieflegislativetenure,hewashonoredtoserveastheHouse
CommitteeonCommercechair, and
Whereas,JimColvincontinuedhispublicserviceintheJudicialBranch,servingasaBenningtonCounty
assistantjudgeforovertwodecades,from2002–2023, and
Whereas,thisdedicatedpublicservantandadmiredcivicleaderdiedonSeptember20,2024,at77yearsof
age,andhissurvivorsincludehiswife,Lodie;hisdaughters;andhisgrandchildren,now therefore be it
ResolvedbytheSenateandHouseofRepresentatives:
ThattheGeneralAssemblyextendsitssincerecondolencestothefamilyofformerBenningtonSelectBoard
Chair,Representative,andAssistantJudgeJamesH.Colvin,andbeitfurther
