Whereas,DonTurnergraduatedfromMiltonHighSchoolandChamplainCollegeandservedhis
hometownandtheStateofVermontasanexemplarypublicofficial, and
Whereas,at16yearsofage,hevolunteeredfortheMiltonFireandRescueDepartment,beginninga
three-decade-plusfirefightingcareer,andformanyyears,heservedinthedualrolesoffirechiefand
townforestfirewarden,andhisothercivicrolesincludedserviceontheBoardofCivilAuthorityand,
morerecently,asMilton’srespectedtownmanager,apositionthatbenefitedfromhiswealthofprior
municipalexperience, and
Whereas,inearly2006,GovernorJimDouglasappointedDonTurnertorepresenttheTownof
MiltonintheGeneralAssembly,andthevotersofhisHousedistrictreaffirmedtheirsupportofhis
legislativetenureatsixsubsequentelections, and
Whereas,priortothe2011legislativesession,theHouseRepublicanCaucuselectedDonTurneras
itsleaderforthefirstoffourconsecutiveterms,andheardentlyadvocatedonitsbehalfwhilealso
promotinganamicablelegislativeprocess, and
Whereas,asidefromhispublicsectorduties,DonTurnerwasasuccessfulrealtor,helpedoverseehis
family’sconstructionbusinessandbowlingalley,andwasanavidfanofMiltonHighSchool’sgirls’
soccerteam, and
Whereas,DonTurnerbriefly,butbravely,battledagainstglioblastomapriortohisdeathon
November30,2024,at60yearsofage,andheissurvivedbyhislovingwifeof40years,Gail;his
children;grandchildren;andparents,andthecitizensofMiltonwillmisshisfriendshipandleadership,
nowtherefore be it
ResolvedbytheSenateandHouseofRepresentatives:
ThattheGeneralAssemblyexpressesitssincerecondolencestothefamilyofformerRepresentative,
HouseRepublicanLeader,andMiltonTownManagerDonaldH.TurnerJr.,andbeitfurther
Resolved:ThattheSecretaryofStatebedirectedtosendacopyofthisresolutiontothemembersof
DonTurner’sfamily,theMiltonTownClerk,andtheMiltonFireDepartment.
