StateofVermont HouseofRepresentatives Montpelier,Vermont ConcurrentHouseResolution H.C.R.70 OfferedbyAllMembersoftheHouse HouseconcurrentresolutiondesignatingApril10,2025asAlzheimer’sAwarenessDayattheStateHouse Whereas,accordingtotheNationalInstituteofNeurologicalDisordersandStroke,Alzheimer’sdiseaseisa “progressiveneurogenerativediseasethatoccurswhennervecellsinthebraindie,”anditcanresultin “[i]mpairedmemory,thinkingandbehavior,” and Whereas,mostexpertscalculatethatnearlysevenmillionAmericans65yearsofageandolderareliving withthisdisease, and Whereas,inVermont,12,800individuals65yearsofageandolderarelivingwithAlzheimer’s,andin2020 (themostrecentcalculationofthisstatistic),9.9percentoftheState’sresidentsinthisagecohortwereits victims, and Whereas,in2022,Alzheimer’swasthecauseofdeathfor329Vermonters,makingthediseasethefourth- leadingcauseofdeathintheStateandrepresentinga145.5percentincreaseduringtheyears2000–2022, and Whereas,theimpactofAlzheimer’sinVermontisnotlimitedtothosewhoarelivingwiththedisease,as approximately20,000Vermontersarededicating29millionhourstoindividuals’Alzheimer’scare,a commitmentcurrentlyvaluedat$773million,and61.5percentofthecaregivershavechronichealth conditions,35.4percentaresufferingwithdepression,and10.7percentareinpoorphysicalhealth, and Whereas,theprojectedMedicaidcostassociatedwithAlzheimer’scareinVermontfor2025is$158 million, and Whereas,today,April10,2025,familymembers,caregivers,andmedicalprofessionalsaregatheredatthe StateHousetoinformtheGeneralAssemblyofthefinancial,personal,andsocietalimplicationsofAlzheimer’s diseaseinVermont,nowthereforebeit ResolvedbytheSenateandHouseofRepresentatives: ThattheGeneralAssemblydesignatesApril10,2025asAlzheimer’sAwarenessDayattheStateHouse,and beitfurther Resolved:ThattheSecretaryofStatebedirectedtosendacopyofthisresolutiontotheAlzheimer’s Association,VermontChapter.
