Under prior law, “urban communities” were eligible for such grants. DNR’s administrative rules further defined which communities were eligible for the grants by incorporating a definition of “urban area” that was established in a 1989 document relating to federal transportation aids. 2023 Wisconsin Act 50 instead specifies that any city, village, or town with a population density of not less than 125 persons per square mile may apply for a wildlife control grant.
