BILL HISTORY Senator Hesselbein offered Senate Amendment 1 on February 7, 2024. On February 16, 2024, the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Sporting Heritage voted by mail ballot to recommend adoption of the amendment and passage of the bill, as amended, both on votes of Ayes, 5; Noes, 0. AH:jal 1 Incorporating a definition from federal law, the bill defines “veteran” to mean a person who served in the active military, naval, air, or space service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable. 2 Federal law authorizes gold star families to receive lapel buttons. Gold star family members are people identified by the U.S. Department of Defense as being next of kin of members of the Armed Forces who have lost their lives while engaged in, or as a result of, certain conflicts or operations.
