Whereas, February is recognized across the nation as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month; and Whereas, dating violence is a reality for many youth and an issue that many parents are unaware of; and Whereas, one in five teens is a victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner, and two in three teens who were in an abusive relationship never told anyone about it; and Whereas, more than half of women and men who have been physically or sexually abused or stalked by a dating partner first experience abuse between 11 and 24 years old; and Whereas, young people can choose better relationships when they understand that healthy relationships are based on respect and when they learn to identify early warning signs of an abusive relationship; and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 - 2 - LRB-5670/1 CMH:skw 2023 - 2024 Legislature Whereas, the elimination of dating violence must be achieved through the cooperation of individuals, organizations, and communities; and Whereas, Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an excellent opportunity for citizens to learn more about preventing dating violence and to show support for the numerous organizations and individuals who provide critical advocacy, services, and assistance to victims; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin State Legislature does hereby recognize February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
