Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number: 39-072/00-005.99  () (39A142), (39.31693, -79.69367) locally known as FLAG RUN BRIDGE, carrying WV 072 over FLAG RUN in Preston County, the "U.S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Ronald Gene Sypolt was born December 7, 1951, in Rowlesburg, a son of the late Carl Gay and Edith Watkins Sypolt; and

Whereas, Ronald graduated from Rowlesburg High School, Class of 1969; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, served in Vietnam from August 11, 1970, through August 10, 1971, and was honorably discharged March 9, 1973; and

Whereas, In recognition of his service, U. S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, and a Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Ribbon; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt retired from MJE as a Data Tech in Uniontown, PA; Ronald also had worked at Etam Earth Station, ATT, and Kinney Shoe Factory, and

Whereas, Ronnie enjoyed woodworking, riding his motorcycle, his side by side, fishing, hunting and taking long walks; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at his residence with family by his side; and

Whereas, U. S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Joyce Kay (Henline) Sypolt; one daughter, Melissa Jean Plum and her husband Johnny, Newburg; one son, Ronald Scott Sypolt and his wife Shavon, Rowlesburg; five grandchildren, Derek Allen Plum and his wife Stephanie, Andrew Jean Plum and his wife Katherine, Macayla Marie Sypolt, Natalie Rae Sypolt and Liam Scott Sypolt; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Holt, Addison Grace Plum and Maddix Allen Plum;

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U. S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it 

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number: 39-072/00-005.99  () (39A142), (39.31693, -79.69367) locally known as FLAG RUN BRIDGE, carrying WV 072 over FLAG RUN in Preston County, the "U.S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt Memorial Bridge; and, be it 

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army SP4 Ronald Gene Sypolt Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
