                    SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 13

Requesting the Division of Highways name a portion of WV Route 10, beginning at the Hal Greer Boulevard exit from Interstate 64, Latitude 38.3921254, Longitude -8234015503, through the intersection with WV Route 19, Latitude 37.4053864, Longitude -81.1400179, the "Purple Heart Trail".

Whereas, The Commander for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 733, Charles Baidsen, contacted the City of Logan requesting that the subject portion of road be named the "Purple Heart Trail"; and

Whereas, The City of Logan supports naming the subject portion of road the "Purple Heart Trail" as it is so significant in continuing the deserved recognition of the lives given, or servicemembers wounded, in combat defending the freedoms that all Americans enjoy; and

Whereas, The Lincoln County Commission supports naming the subject portion of road the "Purple Heart Trail" and, on November 2, 2023, passed an order allowing the designation; and

Whereas, The Commander of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 39, Millard Thompson, strongly supports naming the subject portion of road the "Purple Heart Trail" to raise awareness of the sons and daughters of this state who gave their lives or were wounded in combat defending the freedoms that all Americans enjoy; and

Whereas, Naming the subject portion of road the "Purple Heart Trail" will serve as a reminder to family members and loved ones that have lost an immediate family member in the line of duty of military service that their veterans are not forgotten; and

Whereas, Naming the subject portion of road the "Purple Heart Trail" will promote tourism in this state by enhancing its ability to invite military veterans to enjoy this state's trails and beautiful scenery; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate this state's dead and wounded servicemembers and their contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it 

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name a portion of WV Route 10, beginning at the Hal Greer Boulevard exit from Interstate 64, Latitude 38.3921254, Longitude -8234015503, through the intersection with WV Route 19, Latitude 37.4053864, Longitude -81.1400179, the "Purple Heart Trail"; and, be it 

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs at both ends identifying the portion of road as the "Purple Heart Trail"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
