SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 8 (By Senators Phillips and Tarr) [Introduced February 14, 2025] Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 55-956/00-000.01 (NB) (55A240), (37.75117, -81.67505) locally known as Flatrock Street Bridge, carrying Other 956 over HUFF CREEK in Wyoming County, the "U. S. Army Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley Memorial Bridge". Whereas, Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley was born September 3, 1946, in Emmett, West Virginia, the son of George Hurley and Maxine Elba Taylor Hurley; and Whereas, Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley graduated from Man High School and enlisted in the United States Army, serving with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division with two tours in Vietnam; and Whereas, Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley, as a civilian, spent 30 years as an electrician in the coal mining industry and was a 30-year member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Commander of his local chapter, active in the VFW, American Legion, and Vietnam Veterans of America; and Whereas, Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley died August 3, 2024, survived by his wife of 56 years, Deanna Lea Hurley, and children and their spouses Travis (Tonya) Hurley, Kim Stewart, Lean (Randy) Crouse and Tim (Stephane) Hurley; and Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia: That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 55-956/00-000.01 (NB) (55A240), (37.75117, -81.67505) locally known as Flatrock Street Bridge, carrying Other 956 over HUFF CREEK in Wyoming County, the "U. S. Army Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley Memorial Bridge"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army Sergeant Dennis Charles Hurley Memorial Bridge"; and, be it Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
