                    SENATE RESOLUTION 23

Memorializing the life of Janie Lou White, loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and Executive Director of the Preston County Senior Citizens Program. 

Whereas, Janie Lou White was recently retired from her position with the Preston County Senior Citizens Program after faithfully serving for 34 years; and

Whereas, Janie Lou White received her education from the University of California with a master’s degree in gerontology knowing then she wanted to make her career in providing care and assistance to the elderly; and

Whereas, During Janie’s career she worked at Preston Memorial Hospital and the Preston County Senior Center where she strongly advocated for travel, mental and physical wellness, and education for her seniors to ensure quality of life and keep them engaged with their community.  Janie also made sure to share these goals with her employees and mentored them by providing guidance, wisdom, and valuing their concerns; and 

Whereas, Janie Lou was an active member in her community as a member of the Alzheimer’s Support group, the Family Caring Council, Friends though Cancer, and was a frequent volunteer for the Buckwheat Festival; and

Whereas, Beyond her professional achievements, Janie Lou envisioned a retirement filled with adventure and a goal to visit national parks and reconnect with college friends. Her passion for service was evident when she remarked, “My career in community service has been a true blessing. Where else can you be surrounded by people with a heart for service? This is a noble profession, one where you get paid to love people. I highly recommend it.”; and 

Whereas, Janie Lou White passed away suddenly on January 31, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, commitment, and love of her community; and

Whereas, Janie Lou White was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Myrna Jenkins, and father, George W. Jenkins, Jr.  She is survived by her loving daughters Ashley White of California and Janelle Brown (Travis), of Colorado; sister Laura Rhodes (Chris) of North Carolina; her brother Chauncey Roberts of West Virginia; brother John Jenkins (Tammy), along with a multitude of loving nieces and great nieces, as well as her beloved dog, Gracie, who will be cared for by her daughters; and

Whereas, Let us celebrate a life that illuminated our community with unwavering commitment and love. Her legacy will continue to inspire, reminding us of the profound impact one individual can have on the lives of many; and

Whereas, It is fitting that the Senate honor the life and legacy of Janie Lou White for her many years of dedicated public service; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby memorializes the life of Janie Lou White, loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and Executive Director of the Preston County Senior Citizens Program; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its most sincere condolences to the family of Janie Lou White on her passing; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the family of Janie Lou White.
