2929 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 3
3030 * Section 1. AS 21.36 is amended by adding a new section to article 5 to read: 4
3131 Sec. 21.36.525. Decisions based on elected official status. (a) A person 5
3232 transacting insurance in this state may not, solely because of a person's status as an 6
3333 elected official, 7
3434 (1) refuse to issue or renew insurance coverage; 8
3535 (2) limit the scope of insurance coverage; 9
3636 (3) cancel an existing policy of insurance; 10
3737 (4) deny a covered claim; or 11
3838 (5) increase the premium, policy fees, or rates charged on an insurance 12
3939 policy. 13

4545 (1) based on sound underwriting or actuarial principles reasonably 2
4646 related to actual or anticipated loss experience; or 3

4848 (c) In this section, "elected official" means a member of the legislature, the 5
4949 governor, the lieutenant governor, a member of the state's congressional delegation, a 6
5050 constitutional convention delegate, a borough or city mayor, or a member of a borough 7
5151 or city assembly, council, or school board. 8

5454 APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to an insurance policy or contract issued, 11
5555 delivered, or renewed on or after the effective date of this Act. 12
