9-2 ENROLLED, An Act,
10-3 Relating to Russell County; to provide for the
11-4 compensation of the members of the county commission.
12-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
13-6 Section 1. This act shall apply only to Russell
14-7 County.
15-8 Section 2. (a)(1) Effective on the first day of the
16-9 month following the effective date of this act, each member of
17-10 the county commission shall receive an annual salary of
18-11 twenty-eight thousand dollars ($28,000) per year. The salary
19-12 provided by this subdivision shall be in lieu of any salary,
20-13 expense allowance, or other compensation provided by law on
21-14 the effective date of this act.
22-15 (2) Effective on the first day of the month
23-16 following the effective date of this act, the chair of the
24-17 county commission shall receive an annual salary of
25-18 thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) per year. The salary
26-19 provided by this subdivision shall be in lieu of any and all
27-20 salary, expense allowance, or other compensation provided by
28-21 law on the effective date of this act.
29-22 (b)(1) The county commission, by majority recorded
30-23 roll call vote of the entire elected members of the county
31-24 commission, may grant to each member of the commission, not
32-25 including the chair of the commission, an additional expense

34-1 allowance, payable in equal monthly installments from the
35-2 general fund of the county.
36-3 (2) Any expense allowance granted to the members of
37-4 the commission shall become salary effective upon the next
38-5 term of office following the term that the expense allowance
39-6 becomes effective.
40-7 (c) Notwithstanding any provision of this section or
41-8 any other provision of the law to the contrary, the total
42-9 annual compensation of any member of the county commission,
43-10 including salary, expense allowance, and other compensation,
44-11 may not exceed the total annual compensation of the chair of
45-12 the commission.
46-13 Section 3. All laws or parts of laws which conflict
47-14 with this act are repealed.
48-15 Section 4. This act shall become effective
49-16 immediately following its passage and approval by the
50-17 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
