10-2 ENROLLED, An Act,
11-3 Relating to Madison County; to further provide for
12-4 the compensation of the Coroner of Madison County beginning in
13-5 the next term of office commencing in January 2023; and to
14-6 repeal Section 45-45-60 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
15-7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
16-8 Section 1. (a) Effective beginning the next term of
17-9 office of the coroner in January 2023, the Coroner of Madison
18-10 County shall receive an annual salary of fifty thousand
19-11 dollars ($50,000). The salary shall be paid from the general
20-12 fund of the county and shall be paid in the same manner as
21-13 county employees are paid. In addition, the coroner shall be
22-14 entitled to participate in the county health insurance plan
23-15 and receive any other benefits to the same extent, under the
24-16 same conditions, in the same manner as county employees and
25-17 the coroner shall be entitled to receive uniform increases in
26-18 compensation, such as cost-of-living raises, in the same
27-19 amount as uniform increases in compensation granted equally to
28-20 county employees by the county commission.
29-21 (b) The salary and benefits provided in subsection
30-22 (a) shall be the total compensation of the coroner and shall
31-23 be in lieu of any other compensation or fees, including any
32-24 compensation provided in subdivision (1) of Section 45-45-11,

34-1 Code of Alabama 1975, except for actual and verified expenses
35-2 as provided in subsection (c).
36-3 (c) In addition to the compensation provided in
37-4 subsection (a), the coroner shall be entitled to be reimbursed
38-5 for actual and verified expenses incurred for the operation of
39-6 the office of coroner and other expenses in the performance of
40-7 the duties of the office, not to exceed fifteen thousand
41-8 dollars ($15,000) per year.
42-9 Section 2. Effective at the expiration of the term
43-10 of the coroner serving on the effective date of this act,
44-11 Section 45-45-60 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the
45-12 compensation of the coroner, is repealed.
46-13 Section 3. This act shall become effective on the
47-14 first day of the third month following its passage and
48-15 approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.

24+17 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
25+18 Section 1. (a) Effective beginning the next term of
