2 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution,
3 COMMENDING EVAN MCPHERSON FOR OUTSTANDING
4 PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT.
5
6 WHEREAS, it gives us great pride and special
7 pleasure to commend Evan McPherson for his dedication and
8 accomplishments as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals Football
9 Team; and
10 WHEREAS, McPherson, a native of Fort Payne, Alabama,
11 is the son of Amber and LaDon McPherson; he is a 2018 graduate
12 of Fort Payne High School, where he played four seasons as the
13 kicker and punter of the Fort Payne Wildcats; and
14 WHEREAS, from 2018 to 2020, Mr. McPherson played for
15 the University of Florida; as a Florida Gator, McPherson
16 earned 302 career points; he had 136 touchbacks on 241 career
17 kickoffs; McPherson played in 37 games during his three
18 seasons and he led the Southeastern Conference with a career
19 field goal percentage of 85.0; and
20 WHEREAS, McPherson was drafted by the Cincinnati
21 Bengals in the fifth round of the 2021 National Football
22 League Draft; he signed a four-year rookie contract on May 17,
23 2021; and
24 WHEREAS, for the first time in 33 years, the
25 Cincinnati Bengals played in a Superbowl, Super Bowl LVI

1 against the Los Angeles Rams on February 13, 2022, thanks in
2 large part to McPherson's phenomenal skills; McPherson went
3 14-for-14 in post season kicks, including two tries he made at
4 the Super Bowl LVI; and
5 WHEREAS, his performance, as well as his excellent
6 character during the 2022 Superbowl, was lauded by media
7 outlets across the United States; McPherson's outstanding play
8 earned him nationwide respect and put his hometown of Fort
9 Payne, Alabama, in the spotlight; and
10 WHEREAS, it was a tremendous honor to witness one of
11 DeKalb County's very own hometown football stars achieve this
12 level of success; McPherson is truly a shinning example to all
13 young athletes; now therefore,
14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
15 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Evan McPherson is honored and
16 commended, and this resolution is offered to him in highest
17 tribute and heartiest congratulations as well as with sincere
18 best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
