8	RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH AS SKIN CANCER
9 AWARENESS MONTH.
10
11	WHEREAS, according to the American Academy of
12 Dermatology, 3 million American citizens are diagnosed with
13 skin cancer each year; and
14	WHEREAS, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation,
15 skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and
16 worldwide; and
17	WHEREAS, the Melanoma Research Foundation reports
18 that Melanoma diagnoses are increasing at epidemic rates and
19 predicted that in 2021 over 207,000 Americans will be
20 diagnosed with the deadliest form of skin cancer; and
21	WHEREAS, melanoma is not just a cancer of the skin,
22 but can develop anywhere on the body, and it does not
23 discriminate by age, race, or gender; and
24	WHEREAS, melanoma and other skin cancers are thought
25 to be 90 percent caused by exposure to ultraviolet light and
26 sunlight; just one blistering sunburn at a young age can
27 double the chances of developing melanoma later in life; and
Page 1 1	WHEREAS, awareness, education, early detection, and
2 prevention of skin cancer can save lives; now therefore,
3	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
4 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we recognize the month of
