1414 8 RECOGNIZING THE MONTH OF MARCH AS SKIN CANCER
1515 9 AWARENESS MONTH.

1717 11 WHEREAS, according to the American Academy of
1818 12 Dermatology, 3 million American citizens are diagnosed with
1919 13 skin cancer each year; and
2020 14 WHEREAS, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation,
2121 15 skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and
2222 16 worldwide; and
2323 17 WHEREAS, the Melanoma Research Foundation reports
2424 18 that Melanoma diagnoses are increasing at epidemic rates and
2525 19 predicted that in 2021 over 207,000 Americans will be
2626 20 diagnosed with the deadliest form of skin cancer; and
2727 21 WHEREAS, melanoma is not just a cancer of the skin,
2828 22 but can develop anywhere on the body, and it does not
2929 23 discriminate by age, race, or gender; and
3030 24 WHEREAS, melanoma and other skin cancers are thought
3131 25 to be 90 percent caused by exposure to ultraviolet light and
3232 26 sunlight; just one blistering sunburn at a young age can
3333 27 double the chances of developing melanoma later in life; and
3434 Page 1 1 WHEREAS, awareness, education, early detection, and
3535 2 prevention of skin cancer can save lives; now therefore,
3636 3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
3737 4 THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we recognize the month of
3838 5 March 2022 as Skin Cancer Awareness Month in the State of
3939 6 Alabama.
